  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil, olive or avocado oil
  • 2 tbsps. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/3 cup chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp. onion salt.
  • Salt or pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Prepare skillet, and then heat oil in medium level. Put chili powder and flour then stir them. Keep heat at medium and stir constantly until it looks brown.
  2. Put cumin, tomato sauce, garlic powder, onion salt, and water into skillet. Keep stirring and cook for ten minutes. Make sure those ingredients are completely mixed.
  3. Add salt and simmer until the sauce is thickened.

This recipe uses vegetable oil, but you may try avocado or neutral oil. Both are reliable to cook flour and chili powder. The latter is the key why enchilada sauce will taste hot, not spicy. Pepper is also an option, but it is not common for this recipe unless you like to combine extra hot spicy stuff in single food. Some recipes don’t include tomato sauce, but that’s up to you.
